|Lead||18K & amethyst Alfred Dunhill lighthouse lighter|
SEE SPECIAL SHIPPING NOTE at end of description. 18K yellow gold and amethyst Alfred Dunhill table lighter in the style of a lighthouse perched atop a rocky shore, set with 9 rectangular cut AAA quality amethysts, solid amethyst base weighing in excess of 100 lbs, 18K gold lighthouse, base with engraved and textured pattern to look like bricks with a small ladder leading up to a fenced ledge with a small door, the base tapers to a second fenced ledge and then onto a third fenced ledge at the top, hinged top opens to reveal a hand held gas lighter in the same brick design as the base also in 18K yellow gold, the hollow interior of the lighthouse is wired to function as a light with the top sending out a cool purple glow to compliment the base, lighthouse measures 18 inches tall from base of ladder to top of spire x 5.75 inches at the widest point of the base, removable lighter measures 32mm x 154mm, amethyst base measures 22 inches x 25 inches x 7 inches at the tallest point. Total weight of entire piece (amethyst base and lighthouse combined) is estimated at 110 lbs. This particular piece was sold in Dunhill's 1985 Christmas collection for $56,000 and held the Guinness world record for decades as the most expensive table lighter in the world. This is truly the most magnificent piece this cataloger has ever had the pleasure of cataloging and really should be seen in person to truly appreciate its staggering scale, as rarely does one handle 18K gold pieces large enough to be measured in poundage or that could be used to bludgeon someone. Gross weight of removable lighter in 18K gold 119.3 dwt (185.6 g). Gross weight of brick design base in 18K gold with switch and wiring 294.6 dwt (458.2 g). Gross weight of lighthouse top in 18K gold including hinged piece and internal wiring 603.7 dwt (938.9 g). Total gross weight of combined 18K gold material and associated switch and wiring 1017.6 dwt (1582.7 g, or 50.88 troy oz). NOTE: No in-house shipping available. Arranging shipping of this property is the responsibility of the buyer. Buyer may work with any independent shipper or Jones & Horan can recommend one. CONDITION: Lighter shows hardly any wear with only a light tarnish to the gold over time, inner lighter with small split in base metal that hold the flint in place from sitting for many years (see our photo), electrical wired interior set up to run on a 240V battery that most certainly died almost 30 years ago.
